Happy first day of Fall! // decorating the house.

Happy Fall, lovelies! It's finally here, and this week we're getting a break from our 95+ degree days.

Right around this time I get itchy to start my holiday decorating. It's obvious I am an absolute nut when it comes to Christmas decorations, and I'm slowly starting to creep up there on the Fall decorating front.

Growing up, my Mom always had the house perfect for every holiday, including Easter. It's no wonder that with the Persian Martha Stewart as a mother, I ended up hassling my poor husband every September to start bringing down bags and bins full of decorations from the attic.

Here's our little nest, decorated for Fall.

I should probably admit that I'm not done, yet. As you can see, there are no real pumpkins, yet.
I should also admit that I have a slight pumpkin obsession. I am known to bring home one or two (or 50) every year.

This year I'll try to practice some self-restraint, and only bring home one or two.
(or 50)

Here's the spread from last year, when I apparently took pictures at a better time of day for lighting.

Don't the real pumpkins make a world of difference?

Either way, I'm so glad the first day of Fall is here, and our house is filled with warm light, Fall smells, and 50 pumpkins.

Happy Fall, every one!

  3. I'm a little bit more jealous of your seasons again :) I think it's because we only get two where I live. Either HOT or cold. No snow, no changing colours. It's a little sad. I miss American fall. Luckily I can look at this post and dream :) Thank you!

  4. hehe you are so adorable Aura! I agree, your decorations look wonderful - fall (or Autum as I know it) has such warm and comforting colours, I look forward to being able to do something similar in my home next year. Beautiful post as always :)

  6. It's wonderful! I don't know where my message requesting decoration ideas did disappeared but i'm glad of this post!

I love these colors, so warm and cozy. I'm dreaming that I could change all furnitures at home, and then do this kind of decoration. But thank you, this really gives inspiration how to continue creating a new look :)

  8. your house looks so cozy all gussied up for fall! makes me think maybe I should consider trying it. :)

one question though: how do you manage to decorate with leaves, sticks, and pine cones without your animals stealing them as toys? I've tried the pine cone thing before & they've ended up a shattered chew toy mess on the floor (I have 2 big dogs).

    PS--love the old Shakespeare book!

  14. It looks so cozy!! I hear you on the 95 degree weather. That's what its been here in Florida, too! Only 1 week until our big move to Oklahoma--maybe we'll get there just in time for temperature to start dropping!

I adore the fact that you decorate with pine cones and white lights. Perfect!

  16. Gorgeous, as always! And definitely an inspiration.

I am so excited that Fall is finally here. I don't have my own place to decorate, but even just knowing that Pumpkin anything is available (mostly Pumpkin Ale, what can I say, I'm a sucker for it) makes me excited. Not to mention all the stunning colours outside.

  17. LOVE your decorations - as usual! Go all out with the pumpkins! I love them as well (I love anything orange). We've been having nice days in DC but all of a sudden today it's going to be 90! Kind of a downer... oh well. Cooler days are on the way! :)

  22. Very pretty and cozy! I love all the pumpkins you have - especially the white ones. I picked up a few small ones at Hobby Lobby last week and have actually collected some (free!) pinecones around our neighborhood.

  23. This post makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. Fall is my favorite time of year and it shows in our livingroom. Our colors, like yours are lots of chocolate browns, burnt orange and sage green.

I am head over heels for the lantern that is housing your aloe plant (or cactus, not sure what it is). And I am dying to find a canoe paddle like the one on your floating shelf.

Excellent work - I'm pumpkin obsessed too and if it wasn't for our lack of storage space I'd probably have 50 of my own.

Thank you for making it OK to get started on my decor - the boyfriend looked at me like I was off my rocker this weekend when I suggested digging out the fall bins.

P.S. The candle holders in the last image on the end table are so beautiful, what a great find!

    What pretty pictures!
These pumpkins are all true!?? At least look! hihi
They are beautiful and each has its own peculiarity.

There comes the autumn and we hosted here in the Southern Hemisphere spring!
The breezes of autumn will bring cosiness, warmth and love in the forthcoming winter.

    Ps.: I love "cones"! (Pine)

Kiss of light and great weekend.

  33. I can't remember if OK has Calloway nurseries? If so, you should check it out, or if you're in Texas anytime soon. They have the best selection of pumpkins. There are SO many different varieties!
