Back from market...

This morning's treats from the Farmer's Market.

We've been traveling so much the last few weeks, that we've been guilty of lots of sushi nights, pizza, and lunches at my favorite vegan cafe. Last night my Mom called and said we were eating out too much, and demanded it was time to make a trip to the Farmer's Market in the morning for some real food.

One of the farmer's said "I haven't seen you around here much, lately" and I knew that it was time to get back into my routine.

These bright little orange tomatoes are the sweetest things I've ever eaten. Tonight I think I'll fill a Summer salad with them, and be thankful for pushy Mothers and farmers who guilt me into buying their tomatoes.

Your potatoes and tomatoes look DIVINE! Too funny that your mom gave a little nudge, but isn't it amazing how good it feels to just get back to what you know feels best?

I found your blog about a week or so ago, and it inspired me to start shopping at my local farmers market much more often! I just got back from my morning walk there, and I have to thank you! I'm looking forward to eating much healthier this week!

I guessed I missed something...are you a 100% vegetarian? I hope I'm not being too forward by asking. I just transitioned from eating a little meat each week to 100% vegetarian. Any tips for how to get my man to go for it? What a great inspiration you are!

Lillian- We were okay in Austin because they have amazing food there, but when we were in Florida I felt sick the entire time. There was NO healthy food whatsoever, and we were stuck eating tons of fast food and grease. On the plane ride home I was convinced I was pregnant because I was so sick.
Yes, it does feel wonderful to get back to what's right.

Christina- I'm glad! I wish everyone would take advantage of their farmer's markets. They're such a privilege to have.

lablaylock- I was a vegetarian for 3 years, and I'm what I like to call a Single-vegetarian, now. Which means when my husband isn't around, I am one :) I love a good steak every once in awhile, but I'm just not much of a meat fan.
I cook half and half, so we're both happy.

When Michael and I first started dating, he wasn't even eating our touching quite a few vegetables. Now I can cook vegetarian meals a couple times a week and he doesn't mind.
As you become a better cook, I think your honey will soften to the idea of it. In the beginning when we got married and I made gooey casseroles, I wasn't much of a cook. But as I learned flavors and the correct things to pair together, I realized that just as long as the food I made tasted really good, he didn't mind that there was no meat in it. I make a lot of pastas with veggies, as well as stir fry, Indian food, and pizza, without the meat. All those types of food are so flavorful and you can substitute "meaty" things like mushrooms or potatoes.
I have a book called the Vegetarian Bible, and I adore it. You might check into it!

Thank you Steph :)

Hi Aura! I have managed to 'trick' my love into being a vegetarian in very much the same way! I just cook really yummy vegan/vegetarian food and he is none the wiser! wink wink!

Isn't is sickening how awful you feel after eating fast food? I hardly ever eat it, but when I do I feel terrible the next day. I've been seeing those yellow tomatoes at the market and wondering what they taste like. Yay for farmers markets!

Sara- We're pretty sneaky :)

Hollie- Yes, it makes me wonder why I do it every single time.
The tomatoes are super sweet and tasty! I tried one on the way home and ended up eating a handful. The family I bought them from said that they have low acidity. I didn't know if I would be able to tell in the flavor until I tried them.

Too cute that your mum notices that your eating out too much and tells you to go to the market for veggies. when i read that it made me think of my oma, that sounds like something she would do

I have to tell you, something about your blog makes me feel so good and refreshed! Perhaps it is your pictures or all the yummy food haha. Either way, nice post! Love all!

yum and so much goodness. it's cool here so we are eating more stews and soups. on the flip side though i love the raw goodness of straight-from-the-garden-or-farm. it creates so much pleasure - for the palette, body and mind x

Love the colors and makes me so hungry to look at these. We have been out of our normal good routine since I can't cook and we have been eating much out too.

I'm waiting saturday so much that we have time togo buy all season veggies ( I need my man to carry everything right now) and the day I can chop food again. I'm having high hopes that I get rid of the splint next week :)

back on the wagon and it feels so good :)

These finds look amazing. I long for a true, huge farmers market here in Alabama. I might have to hit up one when I got home for the July 4th holiday in Maryland.

it's so easy to get sucked into eating out! we live in downtown Portland and it's just so easy to grab a quick bite somewhere after work instead of going to the farmer's market or the grocery store.... But alas, it's quite an expensive and impractical way to live.

I'd turn my eating-out ways around for your farmer's market finds! :)
