Hello, Hello.

Hello, old & new friends. I was in the middle of Garden Week, and had planned on starting my first post on the flower garden, today.
I, however find it rude to keep going on with my story without acknowledging late guests, so I'm going to take a second to say hello.

Today I noticed that thousands of new people came to my blog. And through the countless comments I got regarding something called:
"Blogs of Note."
I had no idea what that was, but when I searched I realized that today, I ended up on this and this. I don't
know a thing about it, or who runs it, so I can't really say thank you.

So instead I will say hello.
I don't know a lot of you (thousands, seriously guys, that makes me want to go back and spell check everything I ever wrote in here) and
a lot of you don't know a thing about me. It would take forever because I tell long stories, so I will let you know what has been keeping
me busy these last few lazy weeks of Summer.

I spend about 2-3 hours a night outside. That includes 3 hours in 100 degree heat, humidity, mosquitoes the size of birds, junebugs, and stickiness.
It's worth it.
I work in the garden, landscape, sit on the patio and read, drink cold tea, throw the ball with Hunter, have a glass of wine with my husband, and make up new projects that I think need to be done.
All this translates to the fact that I love Summer with every little ounce of love in my body. I am alive, this time of year.

The picture above is our always-evolving patio that I am trying desperately to make feel like our sweet trips to Mexico. Last Summer I decided we
needed cobblestone, so we laid 150 sq. feet of it in the hot Summer sun. My poor husband.

So much so that I recently relieved him of mowing duties. He hates the heat and wants to live in the middle of the Rocky Mountains,
so he was a very happy man. We just trade off chores, so now my face doesn't have to be in the litter box scooping little tootsie rolls as much.
Fine by me.

This is exactly where I sit when I write in here. Isn't that creepy? It's like a two-way mirror.

Life isn't just gardening and blogging for me. I actually spend my time pretty evenly distributed between work, photographing everything under
the sun, (and the sun) family, friends, traveling, and lazy nights on the couch with Michael. I'm also kind of starting my own business. Again.
There's something about a 5 year itch in my career that makes me want to spread my wings and peace out.

Our 7 day hiking & camping trip is sneaking up very soon, and we've been preparing mentally and physically to sleep in the middle of nowhere,
not get eaten by bears, and remember that the world does not end when you skip a shower for a few days.

We are also the kind of people that never make our bed. I probably shouldn't say never. We make our bed when people come over and might see
our room. Otherwise, we never make our bed.

I guess that's me. If you'd like to tell me a little bit about you, I always love to hear it. In fact, a whole lot about you is my favorite.
I try to leave these pages open as much as possible for like-minded people to discuss whatever they want, and to find new friends
& support along the way. The comments are always wonderful to read over. I try to respond as much as I can, but life always comes first.

So it's very nice to meet you.

hello, hello.
Aura

When I first started reading your beautiful blog a couple of months ago, I knew it would be one of those "I knew about Aura's blog before she was famous" things. Your passion for life is evident in everything you write, and people are attracted to that. Don't change, ok?

By the way, we never make the bed either.

i don't make my bed, either. not because i don't want to. but the bed is huge and my husband just refuses. it's not a battle i want to fight. and so we fall into a pile of fluffy sheets and straighten them from time to time :)

Hi Aura,

I've been visiting your blog for about a month or so now and I really love it. There is so much colour and life in your words and photo's, you are a very inspiring person I hope you know :)
Anyway enough gushing. I found it quite funny that your post is titled "Hello Hello". I work for a company in Australia called Hello Hello... And funnily enough with your "Backyard Farming Week" the place I work for is a plant nursery!

Hello from Belgium!

I've been following your blog ever since it came up on Pacing the Panic Room and I love it! It's number one in my reading list actually. I am an amateur photographer myself, I love gardening and everyting that has to do with gardens, and I adore the way you express yourself through your images. You should consider trying to make money with them, really. You are such a sweet inspiration to many.

I like that you call us lovelies. it's nice & friendly. :) and I wiiiish I could convince my husband that bed-making is only necessary occasionally. I would probably not even make the bed for company, but he likes it made every day.

anyway, hi again. I've said hi before so I won't say much more now. oh! except that I liked your open circle necklace so much that I ordered myself one from LLD, as well as a different necklace for one of my best friends. so I wanted to say thanks for telling us about it--they were sooo nice & helpful, and I can't wait to get the necklaces.

I started reading a few months ago too. I just love everything you post here! It's all so beautiful and heartfelt. :)

We don't make our bed either. Well... not really. We have to make it a little bit because the dogs sleep on it when we're not home, and sometimes they're a little overdue for a bath. Not that it really matters, because one of the dogs will adjust the covers to his liking. He loves making forts out of pillows and blankets, and sleeping in the middle of them all. Silly dog.

Anyway, I'm Heather. I like to paint things, I have 2 silly dogs, I love to ride my horse when the sun is setting, and I love gardening too. It's nice to meet you! You can check my blog out if you want to. I'm kind of new at this!

Hi Aura!
I stumbled on to your blog last night (when I should have been headed to bed)and it made me smile! :-) I enjoyed the post about your wedding, which was beautiful by the way...it reminded me a lot of planning for my own (ended up coming in at just about $1500, but it was 15 years before yours, so there's the inflation factor to consider as well). I am working on new gardens and flower beds this year as well...I LOVE digging in the dirt, it's very therapeutic. Congratulations on making "Blogs of Note", and best wishes with everything.

Hi Aura! I have been reading your blog for a while now and you're right...it's about time I introduce myself! Like you, I adore summer. I'm a teacher so I don't work during the summer. Instead I spend my days sitting on the deck reading books, magazines, and blogs from my laptop. I am planning a backyard garden for the fall so I really enjoy reading about your gardening adventures. Oh, by the way, I read your comment about how you want to begin a compost but your honey is against it. Consider this....drill holes in a large plastic rubbermaid bin all over including the lid, add your compost materials, and turn often. I just tried this for the first time and I already have compost to use on my peach tree. I keep mine on the side of the house. I turned it daily and made sure I had plenty of air flow and I had compost in just 2 weeks! Of course it wasn't a large amount but it is very rewarding to know that our food scraps are going to back to the earth. If you need more info email me and I will send you some photos. Thanks for being you!

Hello to you, too! I'm new to your blog, but am very excited to read more about your garden. :) I was intrigued by your 'Our Wedding' link, so read about that last night...I had a couple honorable mentions, too. 1. My hair stylist died in April (we were getting married in July). First of all, I loved my stylist so for that reason, I was really sad. Secondly, I'm a 'hair person,' so having less than 3 months to find someone new was not exciting.
2. Our catering manager at our hotel quit. Maybe two weeks after we'd finally picked a place. (don't remember timing on this).
3. My florist was put on bed rest because she was pregnant with twins. Something I totally understand. But she didn't call me to tell me. I found out about 3 weeks before the wedding when I called to talk about some details.
Regardless of all that, we got married July 19, 2008. :)
Thank you for your beautiful blog. I'm looking forward to reading more.

I noticed your name in 'blogs of note'. My breath literally caught in my throat. I didn't believe it could really be you, I was wrong!

Well hello! I found your blog a while back and enjoy reading your little notes and becoming inspired by your lovely photography. You're amazing! My dad just gave me his old Konica Minolta camera (they are out of business now!) and I've been learning on it - I want to get really good with the camera so I can get a nice one of my own for christmas...hopefully the Canon Rebel or something of the sort. It's funny that I'm saying that's what I want, when I really know nothing about cameras past my Casio Exilim point & shoot...but maybe someday soon I'll know what to look for in a user friendly, awesome camera. And then hopefully I'll be able to take some awesome pictures like you.

I hope you had a wonderful day in the garden, and have many more to come this summer.

I never made my bed either until I married my husband, sometimes it doesn't get made until after noon, but if he isn't home who cares! I used to tell my mom I'm just going to mess it up again anyway! I'm brand new to blogging and have no idea what I'm doing so I may ask some questions later on. What kind of camera do you have? Do you use filters? Great blog keep up the wonderful lovely posts <3!

Hi Aura,

I guess it might feel weird when you realise how many people are here, reading every word you say. I dont have many people reading mine, and it's fine for me.. but when I visited in Finland and saw my turkish aunt and she told me that she reads my blog, I got almost like a panic feeling that I hope I didn't write anything weird or too private there. It's scary too.

And it's funny that I really find that you make same sort of things what are close to my heart and since I have had hard time to find friends in new country, your blog became my morning friend, I read it while having coffee and it's great. Maybe it's stupid but I enjoy of reading your posts always and I hope you won't stop because of loads of people here.

I've been reading your blog for a few days. I think you're an amazing person and that your garden is so beautiful. Once Winter goes away here in Australia, hopefully I'll be able to grow some beautiful plants.

I am also someone who never shake my bed. But never in my mind occurred to take a picture of it! haha, nice idea!
