One Day ..... (10.10.10)

Ryan first posted about 10.10.10, One Day on Earth a few months ago. I was planning big ideas in my head of all the interesting places I could go to capture my one tiny bit to contribute.
But then the months rolled by and I got pregnant, and boring :) Our vacations were put on hold, and I began to wonder what in the world I could find interesting with just another Sunday in Oklahoma.

As it turns out, Sunday happens to be my favorite day of the week. And even though we didn't do anything out of the usual, every day is still a beautiful day, as long as you want it to be.

Here are a few bits and pieces of our day:

Waking up is always easy (and bright) when your bedroom windows get East sun.

Spending time with Hunter.

Picking (& eating) from the garden.

I send Michael to pick tomatoes. The plants have grown over 7 feet tall, and Charlotte has laid babies all around my little jungle. I don't go in the garden, anymore.

Taking Elsie for a spin. I told you she was the perfect shade of green.

Listening to baby. Tick-tock, little heart.

Spending the evening on a blanket in the park, at a Human Rights Festival.
We listened to music and people watched.

This precious little boy had quite the infatuation with Hunter. Such a beautiful family, I have actually photographed them before, splashing in puddles at a music festival last Fall.

September, 2009

We seem to see them everywhere we go. He is French, she's American, and little one speaks both, fluently. I absolutely was awe struck watching his Dad whisper in his ear in words I couldn't even wrap my mind around. Beautiful.

After John played his set, he came to eat a few jalapenos from my garden. And almost burned to death. At least he ate them after he played.
This is his real smile, after faking a jalapeno choke. I have been known to point the camera at you for 10 minutes if it means you finally cave and give me your real smile.

That evening we had a thunderstorm. Those are my favorite nights to relax...

...and pretend like I don't notice that a giant growth in my belly is disabling me from bending as far as I used to. Keep growing, little one. I can wait.

And here it is, the video of our day.

One Day - (10.10.10) from Aura on Vimeo.

Sometimes the best days are the most uneventful ones. Where you spend time doing exactly what you normally do, nothing out of the ordinary. I live for the simplicity and monotony of doing just that. Even if it takes me capturing every second of my day and looking back on it, realizing it wasn't so boring, after all.

Every day, we are a part of something huge. In our little spaces, nestled in our own safe places, we make up one tiny fragment of all the life that is going on around us. Every day we wake up and contribute to our place in this world. I hope your contribution is positive, inspirational, and full of love.

We are all here for a reason. Find yours.

These pictures are beautiful - especially that first one. I like your top :) I wish my garden looked like yours :) It will NOT stop raining here. It is still cold and we are in the second month of spring. My strawberries are rotting, my tomatoes are stressed (according to my readings) and are dying from the bottom up, and my cucumber leaves have been rotting with all the water -- I'm hoping it won't affect the fruit! :S

What does the B&L stand for in your studio?

Have a great week! :)

I love that you have taken such a simple day and put it into perspective... a gorgeous day! I also love how you have captured your day on video.... I know in years to come when you have a wee toddler running around you will look back on days like this and treasure them... seeing your little one's bump!

Seems like a really nice day! We spend it with a family, eating traditional food from my home country and it was so nice. That kid looks so much like my boyfriend when he was little, with blond curls and brown eyes! And he is french too!

Do you practise yoga everyday? I have just begun, but for my lazy mind it is so hard to keep up with the practise everyday.

That fake of your friend made me laugh!

Hey!

I started reading your blog a few months back on-and-off and now I check almost every day for updates. Yet, this is the first time I've commented.

I find your blog, and you as a person, incredibly inspiring and honest. Surprised is an understatement when I saw the video announcing your pregnancy. Surprised and happy for both of you. You'll be great parents.

I have recently started my own blog, so check it out if you have the time. Also, I wish I could make movies like yours.

Keep up the good work, guys!

Your video made my day! What beautiful images. I love the bursts of sunlight through out. And the music was perfect. There is nothing more beautiful then life itself and that what you captured here.

Thank you for stopping by my blog yesterday. I have been reading here quietly for sometime watching your beautiful life unfold. I can't wait to see what great things are in store for the two of you.

Lovely post! I also thought the little foot movements were so cute. Do you often take pictures of your entire day or do you just pick a day and take photos all day?

That family is so precious!
I have found my reason for living, but some days (I think, like everyone), I struggle to hold on to it and remember it. But that's just part of being human, I suppose.

I think some of the best days, the best moments, and the best memories are created in the simplest of times, and the most monotonous of days. Normal life is a lot more healing and exhilarating than people give it credit for!

I think you have one of the most beautiful blogs I've ever come across.

"We are all here for a reason. Find yours."

Beautifully said. This statement brightened up my morning and made me yearn to run outside in the rain here and let it wash away all the distractions so that I can find what my purpose is.

Thanks for the inspiration.

Beautiful! I love those easy, simple, relaxing types of days, when you have time to savour how wonderful life is.

The video is great! It's interesting to view it in comparison to the photos, in terms of how it communicates that nice message below your video. I think they're both effective, but somehow the moving images, especially because they are slowed down and moving-because-of-breath, are very compelling to me.
Keep on stretchin'.

I'm so glad you did something for 10.10.10. I can't wait till they get everything archived and you can actually start seeing glimpses from around the world. Someone from some random slice of earth can tune in and see your day unfold.

awesome.

i swear aura, your videos always give me goosebumps and make me tear up... even when they aren't remotely sad. they're just so beautiful and inspiring, they are a wonderful reminder to appreciate the simple beauty that surrounds us daily. plus they are produced so creatively.. i'd love to get a peek into your process sometme :)

p.s. it's surreal to me that i've been reading about your life since i was just a young teenager, and now here i am 5 years out of highschool starting my own life and watching you start a new chapter of yours. sometimes i feel like i know you better than my real life acquaintances; in fact i wish so much that i had a friend like you down here in this big empty world that is my new home :\

I think I say this about every post but seriously, I love this. It's so true. Thank you for the reminder.

I thought of you and Michael and Hunter this weekend. My Mike and I went camping. We took off on Monday and went out for adventure on Sunday night. While my bed didn't look nearly as comfortable as yours it was quaint... only bad thing was Mike started feeling ill right around sunrise and we had to pack-up and head home. Our pup June was so confused she was so ready to nap under the stars for the evening. We have a few more weeks before the winds turn too cold so we hope to get back out. Mike wondered if we would still camp once we had children and I told him.. If Aura & family can do it, we can do it! :) ox

I kept thinking that I missed 10.10.10 and I was bummed because I didn't go around or do anything spectacular, but then I realized that is not the point. Ordinary life is. Great pictures and video :)

Your photographs are beautiful- so are your musings. You make me nostalgic for this time a year ago-when I was pregnant with our fourth (and final)baby. She is now 8 months old and I cannot believe how fast the time has flown. You seem to be soaking it all in, savoring it. That's wonderful.

I have yet to say congratulations about the Little One, so i will do that now...congratulations! I can't wait to see your entire pregnancy and home birth (is that creepy? haha); after watching "The Business of Being Born," a home birth is something I'm entirely too interested in.

Thanks for your consistent inspiration!

perfect in its ordinariness. Not that there is anything ordinary about you. You're special. You might want to start staepping your feet hip width apart in uttanasana. And instead of beding as far forward as you can, think about making space in your torso - for your breath and for your baby. Space in your life...for the new life your growing x

Working my way backwards through your gorgeous blog and just saw this post - awesome! I'm guessing you might be planning a home birth by that picture of you listening to baby's heartbeat. If so, rock on! Though I would have never imagined doing so before I got pregnant, we eventually came to the decision of having our little bub at home. It was an incredible experience that changes you for life in ways you can't even imagine. But no matter where baby is born, mamas are just amazing, aren't they? I still can't get over the fact that I grew a new life and gave birth - it's a miracle all around! Wishing you all the best in your journey :-)
