I just went and got my parent's old pictures the other day too! It's so surreal to see where you came from and to be able to actually touch the past. I'm waiting to buy a scanner because I can't wait to share pictures like these!

I love these photos. My favorite is the one of your dad and the rainbow. This has always been one of my favorite past times, going through old pictures. I always loved visiting my grandparents because she had albums for each of her children and grandchildren. I would spend hours going through them. I still do this when I visit. It never gets old.
My husbands family was going to just throw away some old family photos and he insisted that we take them. We have been going through them and can not believe all the things we have come across. I can't even begin to fathom why you would want to discard a part of your history.
Thanks for sharing these photos.
XOXO
Amber

These photos are so amazing, thank you for sharing these. Your parents are beautiful people. I love looking at old photos, but all the old photos of my parents when they were young are hidden somewhere, and I haven't ever seen many photos. Maybe it's time for some photo searching back home when I have holidays there :)

Hey Aura, I've just found your blog a week ago and I was also wondering how did your parents meet? Your mom doesn't look like a lady from Iran. Or maybe we don't know well that culture? I thought they have to cover themselves almost fully?!
I really enjoy your wrintings and am interested in your story/background!

its amazing the emotions that photos evoke. I lost my dad to cancer 4 years ago. Pictures are so cathartic. My daddy was my favorite, and when i look at photos of him, or him and I together, i am reminded how much i am like him, and who i am because of him.
There is nothing more special and unique about the relationship daughters have with their dads. My husband is learning this now with our 2.5 year old daughter. its wonderful.

Love this post! I have a lot of my parent's old photos and I'm trying to recover even more. My uncle surprised me one day with all my dad's letters to HIS mom while he was in Vietnam in 1969.. it was amazing to read letters to my grandma from my dad at age 19.. he was the best son ever!

*Side note, I blogged about YOU today and how you inspire me! If you want to read:

photos are amazing, aren't they? i print my family blog into a book each year -- i love thinking about my children and grandchildren reading them down the road.

I love these pictures. Your dad's crew looks like they should have been a rock band. A very Led Zep-ish rock band.

I love the tan/orange hue of old pictures. When my mom passed the first thing I searched for was all of her photo albums she kept of me growing up and of her and my father from age 19 until they divorced. I love them they are a prized possession of mine as well. oxox

Thank you for sharing!

I'm a big collector of old photos. I have tried to put into words why I am so unbelievably enamored with them, but I always seem to fail. The aesthetics? The history? The questions and curiosity?
Either way, these photos are amazing.

twoloversontherun: That is wonderful :) if you don't have a scanner, try just shooting with your digital camera, on macro mode, no flash, in good lighting. I love what you said about touching the past. That is so perfect.

Amber- throw them away?! They're nuts. I could never ever throw away pictures. I seriously have stressed on multiple occasions about one day our great great grand kids not keeping our pictures :)

Anonymous- I wish I had more details on how my parents met. Actually, I think I will ask my Dad about this, soon. Thanks for the little reminder. He told me one time that they were neighbors when my Mom moved to Tehran from her home in Yazd. He said he used to sit and watch her in her window, fixing her hair and putting on makeup. I wanted to die at the cuteness of it :)

Sini- I wish every one would take the time to look at their old family photos. They're so important.

Julie- When my parents lived in Iran, things were much different. Women didn't have to cover up until after the Revolution. My parents escaped Iran right as it began. Crazy, right? One day I will write a big story about this, because their past is so incredible. For the first time a few months ago, I said out loud to a friend that I was the first generation daughter of two Iranian's who escaped their home country during the Revolution. I was shocked, and incredibly proud at the same time.

Genovetta- So sweet. I get choked up sometimes, thinking about Michael and our maybe-baby-girl having that type of bond. I bet it's so special for you to see :)

Amanda- What a great son :)

Kelly- I considered editing these to be true colors for all of two seconds before I realized that the vintage hue was just perfect!

Octohawk- I'm even obsessed with other people's old pictures! I think it's the history, and that peek into one small moment in time that has been forever frozen. It's amazing.
