A mess of photos (November & December)

I thought my tomatoes would never stop growing. We had them all the way through the middle of November. Next year - less tomatoes.

I'm growing restless with our bedroom. No room in this house is safe from my nesting.
I am gathering frames and bits of interesting things for the walls.

My husband, the constant adrenaline-seeker.

I stopped coloring my hair about a year ago, so there are a few gray hairs making their presence be known. I think they're pretty, little shiny streaks here and there, reminding me that I am one year wiser.

Protea flowers. Now that it's Winter, one of the best parts of my day has been walking to a little flower shop and picking out bits of sunshine to warm up the house. They have been my favorite flowers, and last almost 2 weeks before they start to turn the most curious shade of gray. They look like fuzzy, newborn birds right before they die.

We finally found the perfect changing table for the baby's room. We searched antique stores, junk shops, and thrift stores for 2 months before finally settling on this pretty French Provincial piece. We high-fived in the car when we got it in.

Happy Monday, friends. How was your weekend? Anything exciting?

I have been mending a poor, torn ab muscle. A new symptom of pregnancy that I learned about this week is Diastis Recti. It's the separation of your ab muscles from each other, and when you refuse to switch to prenatal yoga, still move furniture around, and generally pretend that you're not 7 months pregnant, it can worsen the condition. I found this out the hard, and painful way.
Otherwise, we made lots of hot tea, bundled up, and slept in this weekend. I finished 2 sewing projects, and we played the little bird music all weekend long.

Sing-alongs and Lullabies
&
B is for Bob.

Her favorite song is High Tide or Low Tide, and I couldn't agree with her more. It's one of my favorites, too, baby girl.

It reminds me of the sea.

Have a great week, friends.

I am always blow away by the pictures of your house, everything looks so perfect! I love your sense of decor.

I don't have any grays yet, but I actually kind of look forward to them. I don't plan on coloring them.

As always all of these images are beautiful. I really love the one of the dogs back feet. And I adore the trunk at the foot of your bed, such great condition. Thank you for sharing. I wish I could think of my gray hair as you do.

My excitement this weekend all the snow we received here in Alabama. 11" at our house. I'm working up the nerve to dive head first into it and make a snowman. This Maryland girl is so happy to see this winter wonderland outside!

Lovely photos. I had such a great weekend! Also lots of relaxing... watched football and spent time with some of my favorite people and doing some of my favorite things.

I love your blog and have been encouraging my friends to check it out!

Love from Northern California <3

Thank you, Ana. I change things around quite a bit, especially in the cold months. Things start to feel stale. I can be a mess, though. Maybe I need to take pictures of my laundry piles and dirty dishes so no one gets the wrong idea about my tidiness?

I don't mind the grays at all. Granted, there are only a few. We'll see how I feel when I have a handful :)

Kelly- I actually bought this trunk new, that's why it's in such great shape! We have three in the house and the others have definitely seen a few years.
I so wish we would get snow. It "snowed" twice this weekend, and melted off within twenty minutes. I hate this cold, dreary, wet weather. If it's going to be cold, give me some snow to play in!

Thank you, Brigette! My husband did a lot of the football watching :)

I used to have one of those bunnies. :] My mom made it when I was a kid, and I got to pick out the fabric for it's dress. Wow, that brings back some memories.

Aura said...

Hollie- That is indeed a bunny my Mom made me when I was a little girl.
She actually used to make and sell them on the side, she was quite the seamstress. She always made the most beautiful clothes for them.
I also picked out this one's dress- a peach floral fabric. She's naked for now. When the nursery is done, I will pick something for a new dress. I wonder how long this little bunny will stay in our family.

That's too funny. Mine was a peach floral dress, too! My mom used to make them and sell them around the holidays so we would have money for presents. I think mine is in our attic somewhere.

I have a nice thick patch of gray hair right in the front part of my head. they stand straight up and I have a feeling they are announcing themselves at home :] My husband begs me not to dye them, and I am beginning to take ownership (I think). I'm not going to lie though, I did take a sharpee once or twice to fill them in. a little trashy perhaps?? ohhh weellllll

happy monday! Beautiful pictures as usual!

I love the gray hair picture. I found my first gray hair on Friday and it freaked me out a little bit. I'm 29 too. Thank you for putting the gray hair into perspective for me. Lovely photos, as always.

Wow a french provincial changing table! I wish we had the space for such luxuries. I comfort myself in the fact that it's only a space to change our boy's constant pee and poo :) We have had to settle for a meagre cot top changer.

Your baby space looks very organised. I'm 32 weeks and only ordered our cot today!

Your use of sunlight in your photos is so inspiring. The backlighting and I LOVE little bursts of sun flare here and there. I'm sure it took you a while of playing to get that technique just right!

My Mama always says: "My wrinkles and gray hair are the proof that I've lived" and I totally agree. Oh! I agree with you too: that changing table is to die for! Besos

Have you heard about the group Renee and Jeremy? They put out kids songs that are so beautiful. I listen to them and I don't even have kids yet. It's the gift I give at every baby shower. You can listen here for free: http://reneeandjeremy.com/

I love "It's a Big World"...but they're new "C'Mon" CD doesn't speak to me as well.

I have been following your post for sometime and just want to say you are inspirational!! I love your artistic nature!! Your blog can be such a great escape from some of the negativity in the world!

I have a random question, I noticed your dog in this post and you seem to have a great love and good understanding for dogs. I on the other hand have never had a dog and my fiance is looking into getting one. Do you have some advise or maybe a blog I missed on how to raise a dog or what to do when you both work full-time, and you feel horrible crating them?? I know this is very random but I was just curious since you and your husband have one.

Thank you!!

Your photos just capture my attention. They are so gorgeous and REAL. And so is the way you write.

Yeah, those ab muscle separations.. hurt. I've had really bad round ligament pains with both pregnancies so I can relate a bit.

Also, nest away mama! It's the best.

Ooh...I feel your frustration with Diastis Recti -- I had that (although only mildly) too. Eventually our bodies make us slow down whether we like it or not! But good work on find the dresser -- your little bird will love growing up with that!

:) My weekend was spent cuddling with my beebs'. We're having cold rainy days.

The dresser is gorgeous! What a find.

I had a website saved on my PC about how to "repair" those ab muscles after birth. It was really helpful.. I'll send it to you later.

I am amazed of the season there, so sunny and much light! I really miss that, In France it has been really grey lately and well, in Finland you see the sun only when you are not working (weekends).

I noticed my first grey hairs last summer, but since i color my hair these are always hidden. Yours are so beautiful, love the grey silver color. I would love to go natural with my hair, no color or just a color really close to mine but I don't know how. I haven't found any good salon here. Or should i just grow it out?

Happy rest of the week! We'll spend it in Paris :)

You look great! My Naturopath warned me about the whole ab separation thing in advance so I will definitely be learning from your experience and staying away from the ab tightening yoga moves! Love the picture of your cat!

Hi Aura, I'm from South Africa and our national flower is the Protea. If you hold onto it after it dies, it regains some colour, if you're into dried arrangements (double-YUCK!!! sorry!) you can keep it (gag!). Just some useless info. Lots of the flowers in South Africa are like that you can't tell if they're dead. OK, you look great, I hope you're enjoying your pregnancy.

Aura, your photos always inspire me. I find myself wandering over here daily with my cup of morning tea just to see if you've posted. Whether you do or don't I just feel so warmed and happy looking at the art you create. It's just beautiful. That's the only word I can think to describe it. I am a fledgling photographer and your photos inspire me to look at the world from different viewpoints and see the extraordinary in the ordinary :)
I am sorry about the torn ab muscle. Pregnancy is an adventure in very pleasant and not so pleasant ways.
Can't wait for the next post

Lots of love and blessings to you darling!

Hi Aura! Love your pictures as always. The dresser is beautiful!!! Just one thought regarding antiques - it might be a good idea to make sure the paint does not have lead, as many old things often do. A friend of mine got a beautiful antique toy for her child and didn't realize that the paint used had lead in it. Unfortunately, as all babies do, the little one chewed on it and ended up with lead poisoning. He was fine in the long run, but something to be mindful of. Hope this isn't a Debbie Downer post, but I would have never thought of this precaution myself before my friend's experience and was grateful to have it in mind when I had my baby.

i love how random and tumbling this post is. it's a reflection of all that is going on with you. protea flowers, huh? i picked one up from my farmer's market months ago and have wanted to grow them ever since, i love them too!

My husband and I are just starting to furnish our home and your blog is definitely an inspiration - thank you.

I agree with you about the grey hairs - I have a few but I love seeing older ladies with grey hair and very modern hairstyles - something about that combination really appeals.

I hope you're getting rest and your abdominals are feeling better. xx

Aura,
I've been reading your blog since last summer and it makes my day so much more enjoyable! My name is Jenna, i'm 16 years old and living in Florida. I like black and white photographs, all things old (including people), I love to get mail, look things up on Google images before regular Google just to see what they look like, and I get most embarrassed about my laugh since it tends to come out all at once and then stop even when I want to keep laughing. I'm eco-friendly since I love the earth and plan on staying here for awhile. I want to study meteorology when i'm older. I love all your happy music because it gets my toes tapping and hands clapping. I also love when words rhyme. I wanted to tell you thank you for you posts. My mom and I read them everyday and in a lot of ways I feel so similar to you. I tried to decide what I would say that could possibly let you know how much I enjoy your blog and how much it keeps me thinking, dreaming, and wishing. I hope that gives you an idea of me and thanks!
From, the girl hoping she grows up to be just like you. :)
